We’re all feeling it; January is certainly a month of woe. It’s freezing cold, it’s dark outside and you’ve got sod all cash due to the previous month’s festivities. Worst of all, the months where you spend the evenings moving from one beer garden to the next, bathed in sunlight, seem light years away. You crawl to work in the mornings and you crawl into bed in the evenings, and the thought of summer and getting sloshed at a music festival seems a distant memory.
Thankfully, it’s the last day of January today! You might have also noticed there’s been an influx of festivals in the past decade and there’s seemingly one every week these days. Big time, bad-boy festivals ArcTanGent and 2000 Trees made their 2015 line-up announcements today too! What a time to be alive.
Joining the throng but taking a slant on this is Manchester’s Not A Summer Festival, returning in 2015 for its second year. Rubbing shoulders with the likes of the tremendous A Carefully Planned Festival and this weekends RIFFFEST, Not A Summer Festival launched last year in Manchester’s Northern Quarter and is taking over rad venues Gullivers and The Castle (conveniently opposite each other on the same stretch of road!) for one glorious day in February. Boasting a stacked line-up, theirs is an inner city festival that packs in a lot of good music into just one day! Better than that, both venues have been great for gigs the past few years, and The Castle Hotel is one of the best pubs in the Northern Quarter!
So it must cost loads to get a ticket, right? Wrong. 7 Squid is the asking price, a ludicrous amount for a whole day of music. On the subject of cost, the festival’s Facebook page offers up an explanation: ‘NASF is proof that good music doesn’t have to cost the world. Equality and fair opportunity in music are things that Wet North Productions really stand for, which makes NASF the most important day on their calendar.’
This year’s festival takes place February 7th and will feature the following names over two stages.
