Having the ability to discover new music at the touch of a finger is a blessing and a curse. I mean, it sure is nice being able to just whack Spotify on and have it play a load of stuff you’ve never heard of, filling your ears with goodness.
But it all feels a bit sterile – too easy.
That said, the fact that I discovered London based quartet MOLAR whilst I was lying in bed this morning doesn’t make the discovery any less worthy.
A three-track demo went up on their Bandcamp earlier today and I was instantly hooked; playing it over and over this afternoon.
The snarling, bubblegum shouts during the verses of ‘Courage Sandwich’ brilliantly set the tone for this angsty debut. The super-infectious opener is followed by the equally contagious Sonic Youth-esque ‘Headache’ and the scrappy, surf-pop stylings of ‘Queens of Summer’. It’s almost all over before it even begins, leaving you salivating for more.
You can check out their demo tracks below, secure in the knowledge that if this is what the demos are like, it’s certain that the next release is gonna blow minds!
Keep an eye on these girls – 2016 could see them flying to the fucking moon!
