For a band just starting out, there’s no harm in holding back on that debut release. Whilst there’s definitely merit to be found in getting material online straight away for every man and his dog to hear, taking a step back and focusing on that initial release can do wonders for establishing the sound of a band. It’s also likely to help make it stand out from the crowd. For Birmingham four-piece Outlander, taking stock of their circumstances and waiting out their initial release looks like it’s going to pay off.
Originally getting together back in 2013, Outlander got as far as recording a demo before side-lining the band in favour of other musical endeavours. Back on track and with a revitalised line-up a year later, the quartet began writing a number of songs they hoped to self-release, before deciding on their debut. It’s with great pleasure that Birthday Cake For Breakfast brings you said debut in the form of the two-track release ‘Take Turns’ b/w ‘I’ll Get Mine Too’
The sprawling, anthemic debut from Outlander was recorded not too far from home, with production duties handled by Sam Bloor of Lower Lane Studios in Stoke-On-Trent, during a particularly intense four day period earlier this year. A formal release is planned for the coming months, with a physical release expected toward the end of the year.
Listen to ‘Take Turns’ and ‘I’ll Get Mine Too’ below, and be sure to keep an eye out for concrete plans on the singles official release as well as what Outlander have in store over the coming months.
