I was in a record shop the other day (in Berlin, dahling) and I picked up a copy of ‘Veni Vidi Vicious’ – second album from Swedish saviours The Hives – and thought ‘I’m having this!‘ I only realised on the flight back to Blighty that i’d put it back in search of something else and completely forgotten about it. Thankfully, this recently acquired Hives shaped hole in my life has been temporarily filled, thanks to East London quartet Cross Wires.
Their new single ‘We Call The Shots‘ is pure adrenaline, using its 120-odd seconds to fire ahead at rapid pace and make their intentions very clear. In vocalist Jonathan Chapman i’m feeling the vibe of Pelle Almqvist, with a fever-pitch style backed up by the frantic playing of the rest of the Cross Wires crew.
Produced by Rory Attwell (The Vaccines, Telegram), We Call The Shots is taken from their debut album due for release later this year. It follows scrappy Double A-Side ‘I Want Radio’/’Pink Dogs’ released late last year.
Listen to ‘We Call The Shots’ below and keep an eye out for its digital release on April 21st!
