Remember the days of the old schoolyard? Remember when Myspace was a thing? Remember those time-wasting, laborious quizzes that everyone used to love so much? Birthday Cake For Breakfast is bringing them back!

Every couple of weeks, an unsuspecting band will be subject to the same old questions about dead bodies, Hitler, crying and crushes.

This Week: Off the back of releasing their latest single ‘Baby I’m Your Man, from their forthcoming debut album ‘Feedback’ (out February via Rocket Recordings), Jess Beechey of southern lot Thee Alcoholics answers a series of inane questions!

Exclusive: Bristolian duo POHL join Wrong Speed Records – Hear ‘Parasite’ now!

The ‘Freakspeed EP‘ is a tale that begins in the grip of a low-key amphetamine addiction and ends three years later fuelled by coffee, bananas and energy drinks – but no amphetamines.

Bristolian duo POHL originally envisioned ‘Freakspeed‘ as a whopper of a double LP, taking on spoken word passages and synth interludes, with dipped toes in noise, prog and space-rock pools. Despite two promising sessions with producer, Ben Scott Turner, real life soon reared its ugly head and the project was shelved. “The Freakspeed wore off” said POHL’s Will Pearce.

Three years on and a handful of the songs were picked up by Joe Thompson of Hey Colossus, now running his own DIY label Wrong Speed Records, who thought it only right to put the record out via his new label. The aforementioned energy bundle of fizzy drinks, coffee and bananas having been quaffed, the release is now ripe for the picking – no longer a double album extravaganza, but one which has luckily made its way off of the cutting room floor, pieced together after much graft.

The ‘Freakspeed EP‘ is out this Friday (no fucking about!) – limited to just 50 cassettes (for £5) or pay what you want digital download. These are in stock and will ship immediately, out ahead of the forthcoming Wrong Speed releases of prior volumes from Bass Clef and Acidliner (16/10) and the new Hey Colossus album ‘Dances/Curses‘ (06/11).

Listening to first single ‘Parasite‘, I closed my eyes and thought about nothing else. A word soon began to materialise again and again in the dark fog – ‘RIPPER’! Reading the email from Thompson alerting me to the existence of the album, it’s suggested twice in the blurb that this here is a record that rips. Folks – listen for yourself, you’ll likely be of the opinion that this ripper rips!
