New year, new us, eh? We’re pleased as punch to reveal Birthday Cake For Breakfast has entered the podcast world and what better way to open up ‘60 Minutes or less‘ than with our first guest – Joe Casey, vocalist in Detroit post-punk outfit Protomartyr!
I caught up with Joe in October 2023, ahead of a sold out headline show in Manchester at hipster-hotspot YES. Over a pint of Amstel in a noisy beer garden, the occasional train rumbled overhead and an anxious dog yapped across the way, whilst we spoke of new album ’Formal Growth In The Desert’, having Kelley Deal on loan from The Breeders, life in Detroit, the Brudenell Social Club, WIRE and The Fall, grief and bringing personal matters into lyrics, what sparks creativity, creating their distinctive artwork and disco load-outs.
